Mar Ponce: 'Memories' (Exclusive Interview)

Mar Ponce: 'Memories' (Exclusive Interview)

What inspires your music?

My music is inspired in my day to day life. I get inspiration from a friend telling me a story, something that might have happened to me or even I might over hear a conversation on the street and write about that.

How did you start your professional recording career?

My career started in Peru. One of my cousins owns a small studio there so he would let me go and record covers. I recorded my first ever original in that studio when I was 16 years old.

How did you come up with your single?

This song was inspired by a past “relationship” I had. I say it in quotes because we never labeled it but would act as a couple anyway. It is a funny story because I was at a bar with some friends and I wanted to text him and my best friend told me “you don’t miss him you miss the memories” and the next day this song was born.

What is your genre of music?

I mainly write pop, but I love singing country, it is just very difficult to write.

Who are your influences?

My two biggest influences are Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse

How do you define success?

I will feel successful the day at least one person feels like my music is their safe space and comforts them when they are going through tough times

What can we expect from you in 2022?

A lot of music and live shows!
