Nick Derusha " Deja Vu" (Feature/Interview)
What is the most important thing you want your fans to know about you?
That I am just another regular guy! I want my fans to be able to approach me whenever they see me, to feel comfortable around me whenever it comes to mental health as well. Im always an ear when it comes to helping someone out!And, being someone that struggled immensely to find happiness whether from my childhood abuse traumas, through the bullying I suffered through high school or through my suicidal past, I’ve seen life in many perspectives,so I believe I have a lot of different ways to connect with my fans through different emotional periods in my life and to help them know there is light after darkness.
What is your recording process like for this song?
It starts with the mood that im feeling in that moment, and then composing a beat that I feel fits that emotion. And from there, I write about the subject im feeling, so, like with this song (Deja Vu) for example ,I had just finished a pretty bad breakup with an ex with whom I already had a past relationship with years prior. And while hoping this time would be different, that was not the case and it ultimately gave me the idea of a fairytale going wrong, especially the Rapunzel story, but having the princess not wanting to be saved this time and using the metaphor of someone not wanting to grow in a relationship and that you can’t always help someone that doesn’t want to help themselves!
What do you want your audience to feel when they listen to your music?
The emotional connection to me is very important, I want them to feel the emotions im going through in that moment. Something they can relate to. Whether it’s through a song like “Deja Vu” where the listener can relate to because they just went through a bad breakup , or whether it’s through my album “Introspective Perspective” which highlights my growth after years of self hatred, at my most vulnerable, finding myself, and becoming happy. My catalog is bound to have something everyone can relate to with the everyday emotions I face. And being someone who, at my darkest times, was able to turn to my favourite artist’s music to see that I was not alone in my mental health struggles, makes me know firsthand that music can save lives.
How would you describe your genre and sound?
This is a tricky one! Growing up I was exposed to so many genres at the same time since everyone in my family had a different taste in music! So it kind of shifted me into an artist that loves mashing up all kinds of genres!! But if I had to choose, it is mostly a mix of hip hop/pop/r&b and electronic. Im very much influenced by artists like Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, System of a Down, Styx.. just to name a few!
What are your goals and aspirations for 2025?
My goal for 2025 is to spread as much of my message of self love and against hate as I can! And of course a lot of musical surprises!
