Saskia Nyx: "Moon" (Feature/Interview)

What inspires your music?

My no.1 muse is definitely my boyfriend, Laurent. I love to travel around the world so that probably influences my music a fair bit. And, I guess like most artists, I’m influenced by the music I listen to.

How did you start your professional recording career?

Doing my music degree at LCCM showed me the rope, got me my first connections in music and got me started I’d say.

How did you come up with your single?

It was around the time that I’d first met my boyfriend almost 8 years ago. We pretty much fell in love within a few days of the meeting. At that time he was traveling around the country staying with backpackers and I was couch surfing because I was about to go on tour. Neither of us could afford a hotel every night at that time so we would meet in the forest in freezing cold December and then have to go our separate ways. Then the separation intensified when I did go on tour. One night I went outside to look at the full moon. I was missing Laurent like crazy and I realized the moon was looking over him as well so I imagined that she could tell him how I was feeling. Then it was like a trap door opened in the sky and the song Moon just fell out of it.

What is your genre of music?

Alternative, cinematic, eclectic

Who are your influences?

Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, Cat Power, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Kiwanuka, Glass Animals, Elbow, Lianne La Havas, Jordan Rakei, The Cinematic Orchestra, and many more.

How do you define success?

Happiness

What can we expect from you for the rest of 2022?

I’ve got more songs brewing in the cauldron.
