Jordan Mitchelle: Mindful Singers Vocal Coach (Exclusive Interview)

How did you get your start in music?

When I was 12 years old I first met my dad and I found out that until he was 30 he was a lead singer and guitarist in a rock band. I thought this was the coolest thing ever so I said I'm going to be like dad. He taught me a few songs and I made a band. https://mindfulsingers.com/my-story

Did you perform and record yourself?

Yes, I used to perform around western Canada quite often. I was the lead singer in a rock band called Eyes of Isis. (This was before the terrorists LOL) Our band recorded 2 albums and an EP. The highlight of our career was the opening of Kutless at our local stadium for 7500 people.

Why is vocal health and development so important?

Your body is an instrument and your voice is organic. That being said if you treat it like shit your voice will not cooperate the way you want. If you treat it with love and care most days it will do what you wish. Vocal development is key because if we're not working on our craft and growing we are slowly dying. Not to be too dramatic but we will lose the gift.

What makes a voice unique?

The overall timbre of a voice is what makes it stand out and the ability to let go so that its technique and style can just flow without any interference. Once one has technique and style down quite well they can let go and let their heart speak what it needs to get out. Some people have this naturally and most don't so they gotta work on it for years.

How are you managing to stay inspired by all the changes happening in the world right now?

I believe in life you must pivot at all costs and constantly be learning and growing. Life is not rigid it is fluid and you must continue moving with the ebbs and flows.

What's a good bit of advice you can give to aspiring and developing singers?

Love your voice. Stop negatively comparing yourself to perfected artists' recordings and understand singing is a lifelong journey. I'm all about goal setting but you need to have a mastery mindset that you will continue working on this craft until you physically can't

What can we expect from you in 2022-2023?

I will be launching my Mindful Singers Method singing program for beginners. This will delve deep into the mindset of singing as well as how to self-develop excellent technique, how to know your voice, choose the right songs for you and keep growing. This program will be accompanied by weekly group classes and an online singing community on Facebook to meet the singers in our circle and grow together.
