HunnyB: "Love Like Yours" (Feature/Interview)

When did you first realize your ability to sing?

I think the first time I noticed I could really sing, was when I placed 1st in a singing competition as a young girl, maybe 11- or 12 years old. I always loved to sing, even as young as 3, but I didn't really know how impactful my voice would become.

What is your music and message all about?

My music comes from truth. I have to feel what I'm writing. Whether it's relaying a positive message, empowering, or something more vulnerable or dark, it must be relatable.

How would you describe your vocal style?

I'm classically trained but I love to sing Pop and R&B songs, so I have a mixed vocal style. I also write songs that are more pop-driven, however to more culturally inspired music production. It's really a fusion.

What was the hardest part of making this song?

The hardest part of making “Love Like Yours”, was collaborating with a hip-hop artist on the music video, who lives in another country. Fortunato lives in Canada, and I live in the UK, so we shot our scenes in our prospective countries. It was so worth it though. He was excellent at making sure he filmed his part exactly how we asked. The process of making the song was easy. The most challenging part was getting the mix right. We had a lot of revisions, but the back and forth and months it took, were all worth it.

What was the most enjoyable part of making this song?

The best part of making the song was coming up with the concept, being more vulnerable with my choices, writing the melody, and just recording my vocals, to be honest. Collaborating with Fortunato was amazing as well; he was so easy and lovely to work with.

What is one feeling you want to leave listeners with?

I honestly don't mind what feelings the listeners leave with as long as there is a feeling and hopefully one that makes them want to listen again.

How do you prepare for your live performances?

Before I perform live, I make sure I take care of myself physically and stay hydrated with herbal tea and honey and H20. I rehearse the set alone for many days and then with the band a few days before the show.
