Katherine Lupino: 'Feeling Good' (Exclusive Interview)

When did you first realize your ability to sing?

I would listen to songs on the radio in my dads car on the way to school. I’d learn the lyrics, sing over the top and try to be just as good! I first started theatre school and dance festivals when I was just four years old.

What is your music and message all about?

My music is Jazz, Soul, Pop and Influences are powerful women such as Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Dita Von Teese, Joss Stone, Etta James, Shirley Bassey, Duffy, Lana Del ray and Adele.

My message is all about Female Empowerment.  encouraging women to work together, to be the best version of ourselves, to not be suppressed by emotional and  physical abuse. To live successful, healthy lives, family, businesses, careers and being true to ourselves. Working together to do the greater good and protect our planet.

How would you describe your vocal style?

Jazz, Soul, Pop, Retro, Funk, Bond. Amy Winehouse, retro black and whites, Shirley Bassy Bond style drama..with Dita Von Teese, Dolce Vita forms to it.

What was the hardest part of making this song?

It’s a very well known song that most people have heard, so I had to do it justice. The hardest part was the responsibility of that.

What was the most enjoyable part of making this song?

The most enjoyable part...was all of it! Being able to rebuild the song from scratch and turn it in to a retro bond style with a whole band including saxophonist. I loved being able to put power and passion in to my vocals and fully express myself. It is one of my favourite songs of all time and reminds me of a bond movie. I loved every moment of doing this classic cover by Nina Simone.

What is one feeling you want to leave listeners with?

I want to leave listeners with the feeling that the world is their oyster, feel good in themselves, to be who they want to be, love who they want to love and to make a positive difference on this planet.
