What inspires your music?

My music has always been a deeply personal thing to me. I started writing songs to deal with the difficult times in my life; therefore, my own life has been the inspiration behind my music. However, I also wanted to write music that people could relate to. I want people to be able to connect with every song I put out. The thought of my song potentially helping someone or letting an individual know that they are not alone has inspired me to release my music.

How did you start your professional recording career?

Although music has been my dream career for as long as I can remember, I only took the step to start recording professionally at the end of last year. However, the most challenging part was finding the right producer for me. After meeting with a few producers, I eventually connected with Howie Combrink. Working with Howie has been an incredible addition to my musical journey as he helped me find my sound. I flew up to Gauteng in February this year to start the recording process at Hit Lab Studio, and thus ‘Same Old Story’ was finally completed.

How did you come up with your single?

I actually wrote this song exactly a year ago. I had a breakup, which I am sure most artists would agree is always a fantastic catalyst to write a song. Therefore, one afternoon I decided to stop wallowing and sit in front of my piano and write a song. I wanted to write a song that basically summed up all my previous romantic relationships to be able to close that chapter in my life. After reflecting, I realized that all my past relationships seemed to have the same cycle. Thus, ‘Same Old Story’ was born. I also wanted the song to be able to relate to many people, as I know that toxic relationships are a reality that so many people have to face.

What is your genre of music?

This is definitely a tricky question because, as an artist, I want to be able to explore many different genres as well as combine some as well. For example, in ‘Same Old Story’, I used popular music, rock, and power ballad elements to create the final product. However, overall, I would say my genre of music is mainly contemporary.

Who are your influences?

One of my most significant influences has been Queen. I have always been in awe of the lyricism and the arrangement of the songs they produced. As an artist, it was vital for me to write lyrical songs that can tell a story and convey my emotions to an audience. Queen has definitely been an inspiration in this. Other artists that have influenced me are Adele, Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi, and SZA.

How do you define success?

Success to me is having love and giving love to others. Although I have many dreams and goals when it comes to my music, I will feel successful if I manage to touch even a few people with the music I write. If I can make one person feel less alone or joyful when listening to my music, I will be happy. Music is one of the best vehicles to talk about love, show love and make someone feel loved.

What can we expect from you in 2022?

I am aiming to release an EP near the end of the year. Therefore, the rest of the year will consist of numerous studio and writing sessions until it comes out of my ears! I will also have some performances in between.
