Kinga Angelys: 'Second Chances' (Exclusive Interview)

You have a very unique tone to your voice! How did you develop your voice into what it sounds like today?

I performed quite a bit musically since my childhood! Definitely experimenting with my vocal range throughout this time has helped.  Playing with my voice in various genres (Even singing my favorite songs) helped me assess whether my tone was right for the song/style or not. And finally recording in the studio or even singing videos was helpful to help me understand and work with my sound.

What are the musical influences that went into making this recording?

We grew up in Boney M and Abba in our house so I do draw some of my “joyful pop” sound from there. No Doubt was also a huge influence for me so some of that vibe can be felt in this song as well.

What do you love the most about the 90s era of music?

I remember walking into sunrise records and some of my favorites were: I was pretty obsessed with Much Music at one point. Though I appreciate streaming music, there was nothing like walking into Records and discovering something new on cassette or cd. Whether it was groovy or more grungy, there was such a variety of sounds in the 90s. Among others, Ace of Base, No Doubt, Sublime, the Cranberries, Alanis Morisette, Jewel, the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Guns N Roses and so much more which I loved listening to all on my CD Walkman:)

What do you have in mind for the rest of 2022?

There’s another pop release coming up that dives into dealing with mental health. I will continue writing about topics that are relatable. I definitely look forward to sticking with what has been working so far as well as experimenting with my sound. I’ve been writing tons of songs this summer so maybe an EP or album- I am ready to try something new and definitely keep the music and good vibes coming!
