same as me: "Mrs Van Gogh" (Feature/Interview)

same as me: "Mrs Van Gogh" (Feature/Interview)

What inspired the lyrics?

The lyrics of “Mrs Van Gogh” were inspired by me trying to channel Missy Elliott, one of my main musical inspirations. I wrote this in my Toronto apartment, after moving across the country, so this one has been on the back burner for a minute now. I sent my ideas back and forth between my Executive Producer/Producer of the song, Roy Hamilton III. I also really love Van Gogh’s story -- tragic yet beautiful.

What is your favorite lyric in the song?

These are the funniest lyrics to me, so Imma have to with them:
“I’m a resortYou a Super8You a McCain cake And I’m creme brulee"

How important is visual art to you?

Extremely important. I produce, create, edit and direct all of my own music videos so it is really important to me to be able to visually show what I see for the song that I have written. I also create all of my album artwork. Recently, I began creating abstract art for my mental health and I fell in love. My favorite art is abstract and surrealism.

What do you want your listeners to receive from your work?

I hope to empower my listeners with strength and confidence. I also want to give them a good laugh and a catharsis. Depending on my mood, my music, and my songs change, the subject matter can be very conscious fun to angry. I feel this same way with genres, I love all genres and will not be put in a box. None of us are one-dimensional, so why would music be?

What's next for you in 2022?

I will be releasing one song a month until I release my album. My next release is called “Spare Change” and it drops on September 5th. I also post two video’s a day on TikTok, creating a song or rap on the spot.
