Sanna Martinez: "Good" (Feature/Interview)

Sanna Martinez: "Good" (Feature/Interview)

What inspires your music?

Usually, I take inspiration from personal experiences when I write songs. That could be something I've been through or something that I can relate to. I love to write about things that I'm passionate about, such as; equality, self-love, female empowerment, positivity, and faith. I also love to travel somewhere else and take inspiration from that environment. When it comes to melodies and production I take inspiration from artists I like. A funny thing is that I usually come up with melodies and lyric ideas when I take a shower.

How did you start your professional recording career?

Ever since I was a kid I've been surrounded by music. My family is in the music industry so it came naturally to me. I've been performing a lot both for TV, festivals, and different venues and competitions. A little bit later I started to write songs myself and found that very interesting as well. I started studying music, first as a session musician where you learn how to be comfortable recording in the studio. After that, I studied at different songwriting schools. When I was done with my education I wrote songs for other artists as well as for myself as an artist that I released and performed with. That is where I'm at right now and I've been focusing on my own career more for the past few years.

What is your genre of music?

I would say that my genre of music is dance pop with some influences from sometimes 80s, 90s, or k-pop. So the foundation is dance-pop but different songs vary depending on what fits the song. I listen to a lot of different genres though. Sometimes I only listen to metal, sometimes reggae, sometimes neo-soul, etc, and of course pop.

Who are your influences?

My biggest inspiration is Ariana Grande. I've seen her perform live twice and my jaw dropped. She is such a great singer and performer and I also love her music. Other influences are Zara Larsson, Madison Beer, and Bella Poarch. Another influence both music-wise and in general is God, that keeps me going, and also the people around me.

How do you define success?

For me, success is the journey itself. Every milestone on the way to the bigger goal. Stop for a while and be grateful for what you have and what you have already achieved. Enjoy every little thing and don't give up. If you love it and want to fight for it then you've already succeeded. For me, I don't want to succeed as the biggest artist only to be famous. I want to feel that I've done everything I can to reach out to more people so they can hear my music and feel something, hopefully good. I want to heal people with my music, my voice, and my performance, then I will feel that I've succeeded as an artist.

What can we expect from you in 2022?

I have many plans for the near future! Last Friday, September 16th I released my new song "Good". Hopefully, I'll release one more single before my EP comes out on November 4th. I'll have a release party in the inner city of Stockholm for my EP. And I also have an artist duo called Almost Orange and we will also release one more single, hopefully in 2022.
