The Miles Twins: "Motion" (Feature/Interview)

The Miles Twins: "Motion" (Feature/Interview)

Where are you from?

The womb…shared…but also Aurora, Ontario.

When did you first realize your ability to sing?

We grew up in a very musical household with our grandfather being a multi instrumentalist and music teacher, which lead us to be enamoured by music since we could walk and talk. However we remember a specific defining moment in our childhood when we were 8 years old and we sang “silent night” to our mother and grandmother just before Christmas, and thought to ourselves “hey…that sounded pretty good”. Of course with our mom and grandmothers excitement, and encouragement, we wanted to keep singing and master our craft.

What is your music and message all about?

Our music mainly comes from our real life experiences. We hope that are listeners gain relatability and healing in knowing they are not alone through similar experiences. If one person feels less alone and heard from our music, we know we have done our jobs as artists. A lot of our music represents strength, empowerment, vulnerability, and taking back your power. Oh ya…and a lot of breakup songs.

In general, how is it working together as twin sisters?

Working together as twin sisters is truly the best experience and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. We do virtually everything together from living together, to even having all the same friends…so it only makes sense that we create music together. Don’t get me wrong, we definitely have bad days and disagreements but because we have always been so close through our entire lives, we have experienced a lot of the same traumatic and defining moments which makes it very easy and natural to process and write about those events together. We are the best of friends.

What was the hardest part of making this song?

I think the hardest part of making this song was actually not in the songwriting but rather making sure we were able to make our vision come to life through the production process. We really wanted to make sure our strong emotions were felt, not just in the songwriting but in the music as a whole.

What was the most enjoyable part of making this song?

The most enjoyable part of making this song and any song for that matter, is seeing your vision come to life in the end. With all of the rough drafts, revisions and countless hours spent working on our art, there is nothing more rewarding than having a final masterpiece come together and seeing your hard work pay off.

What is one feeling you want to leave listeners with?

Hands down relatability and comfort. There is something special about feeling understood and that you’re not alone, especially through music. We write our music based almost solely on personal experiences and intense emotions in hopes that listeners can relate and find some peace in feeling heard and understood through even incredibly difficult situations.

How do you prepare for your live performances?

I think that a lot more work goes into preparing for live performances than meets the eye. We typically brainstorm which songs we are going to perform and spend hours getting the music down pat, the harmonies, choosing our parts and perfecting the songs. We then meet up with our guitarist or band mates to practice before the live show. On the day of we are getting all glammed up, practicing, completing vocal warm-ups and going early to soundcheck.
