Sophia Salcido: "Never Goes Away" (Feature/Interview)

Sophia Salcido: "Never Goes Away" (Feature/Interview)

What inspired this song?

I was struggling with past situations at the time that I thought I’d let go of, but here I was still not healed. A thought just came over me that “maybe wounds never heal”, they’re always there, and never seem to go away. But then “isn’t a healed wound that never goes away, a scar?” That was the beginning inspiration for the song. From that idea of emotional scars, I started to think of all my close friends who have self-inflicted physical scars, that are visible. These scars we can see, but the pain that caused them to place those scars there, we never see. Because I know the pain that it causes them, even knowing those scars are there, I wanted to shed light on the topic. Some wounds and hurts heal, but they’ll leave a scar, and that’s our remembrance of what we’ve been through.

What was the hardest part of making this song?

The hardest part, for me, was being honest about what I wanted the song to be about and what I wanted people to take from it. I’ve always been the type of person to not talk about my hurts or struggles, that’s why I turned to write. So when I was asked about the song, it forced me to open up some about the backstory and the why of this song, shedding light on those who are hurting, and that I myself am not exempt from that. In fact, I added a little of my own story to the video. The pictures of the man at the cemetery are of my uncle who passed away. He was the man who inspired my passion for music. When he passed away in December of 2020, it was a really difficult time for me and my family. I used music to get me through that time. It was the start of my journey.

What was the most enjoyable part of making this song?

Obviously, I absolutely love writing, recording, and tracking (all the behind-the-scenes things before the song is released). However, with this song, there were so many people, who after hearing the backstory of it and watching the music video reached out to me and would just talk to me and tell me how this song, in particular, touched them and helped them. That was huge for me. The idea is that this is something that helps me, but it’s also helping other people.

What do you want listeners to come away with after listening?

I really just want people to know it’s okay, that the scars on our hearts and maybe even on our arms have meaning. They show a story of what makes the beautiful, amazing person you truly have become through all the heartbreak, trials, and broken times. I want them to know that all the tears they shed, all the pain they have felt, are seen and heard, and most of all they’re not alone. There is always another day, another chance, always hope.

What will you be working on next in your music care

I will have a new song coming out in October called “Lonely, With You.” Other than that, I’m just going wherever it takes me. I will always be writing more songs, and I am excited to see what the future is waiting to teach me.
