Q&A Session with UK Songwriter & Music Producer Callum Richards

What are your ethnic roots and where did you grow up?
I’m from South Wales in the UK. It’s not the most affluent area, and growing up here definitely shaped the way I see the world. There’s a strong sense of resilience and realness in the people here, and I think that comes through in my songwriting.

When did you start making music and when did you go pro?
I started making music when I was 15. That’s when I really began exploring songwriting and playing live. I went professional at 22, and since then, music’s been my full-time life. It’s been a journey built on passion, consistency, and saying yes to just about every opportunity that’s come my way.

How has your culture influenced your music and worldview?
Coming from a working-class area has definitely influenced my lyrics and general outlook. I don’t write from a detached place—I write from experience, from grit, from hope. The culture in South Wales is rich in community, storytelling, and authenticity, and that’s something I carry with me into every song I write and every performance I give.

Tell us about your company. How does it help musicians?
I run a company that provides top-tier live music for hospitality venues, private functions, events, and weddings. It’s built around the idea of helping musicians focus on what they do best—playing music. I take care of the admin, bookings, logistics—everything behind the scenes—so they can just show up and perform. It’s important to me that artists are paid fairly and treated with the respect they deserve.

What’s the most important thing you want people to know about you?
That I’m a hard worker—maybe even a bit of a workaholic. I’m all in when it comes to music, and I genuinely love what I do. I take pride in saying yes to opportunities, pushing myself, and building something that lasts.

How are you managing this content-driven music business we are living through?
I’m not really into the influencer scene, so I try to let the music and the live shows do the talking. I dabbled in it briefly when I was told that’s what I had to do to grow a following, but it really mentally exhausted me having to post things unauthentically. I now use social media with intention—mainly to share important updates or showcase a special moment from a gig. It’s about quality over quantity for me. I’d rather let my craft speak for itself than try to fit into a content formula that doesn’t feel authentic.

What can we expect from you next?
I’m really looking forward to expanding my horizons as a songwriter. I want to collaborate with other talented artists and just make great music—music that connects with people.
