Indigo Star: "Water" (Exclusive Q&A Interview)

Indigo Star: "Water" (Exclusive Q&A Interview)

What is the most important thing you want your fans to know about you?

I want fans to know that I care deeply. I care about authenticity, about creating a connection through my music, and about being completely intentional with the art that I create. I want them to know that I intend to create a safe space for people to find part of themselves in.

What is your recording process like for this song?

This single was the first one of a bigger project that I worked on for about 2 years. Because it started as a university brief, the majority of the recording of it happened at the facilities, and the rest of them at home. It was a very scattered process as I was still finding my footing around recording and writing something that felt truly authentic to my vision - which started with a mood board.

I started by laying some synths down and stacking a lot of harmonies on top to create some sort of canvas for my musicians to work with. Given that I don’t really play any instruments professionally (yet), it was really important for me to have a clear idea of how I wanted certain parts of the song to sound like so I could communicate them with my band.

What do you want your audience to feel when they listen to your music?

I want my audience to feel like they’ve entered a magical realm whenever they listen to my music. I want them to be transported to a place where anything is possible and where magic exists all around them. I intend for my music to create a visual experience for the listener, to cradle their ears with a ghostly lullaby, and to send them into a path of personal discovery. I want my music to inspire my audience to find a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them.

How would you describe your genre and sound?

I would describe my sound as very eclectic, as an amalgamation of multiple genres that inspire my magic. I draw inspiration mostly from genres like dream pop, ambient, alternative rock, ghost folk and dark rock. My sound feels very cinematic in a way, full of texture, of siren-like stacked harmonies, of atmospheric samples and a rhythm and pulse that feel like a beating heart. My sound travels through your body creating otherworldly sensations, painting a story in your mind, and transporting you to a magical world.

What are your goals and aspirations for 2025?

My main goal for 2025 is to finish recording the rest of this bigger project so I can finally share it with the world. ‘Water’ is the first single of a 5-song conceptual EP about the elements called ‘I Am’,with each song dedicated to a specific element. This project is something I am extremely proud of and I can’t wait for it to be in the listeners hands. I also hope this year I can start gigging more and singing my songs live with a full band, because there’s nothing more magical than sharing the art with other creatives and experimenting with other musicians that love what they do.
