Charlotte Clementine: Fever Dream (Feature & Interview)
How'd you come up with your stage name?
My stage name is just my first and middle name! I think it sounds way cooler than my last name, has more of a ring to it.
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. Never lived anywhere else. I’m a small town girl living in a lonely world. Just kidding - it’s not lonely at all! Newmarket has an incredible community, actually a very great music and event scene. And I don’t really think it’s a small town anymore haha
How did you get your start in music?
Musical theatre! Huge theatre kid over here. Ever since my parents signed me up for community theatre at the young age of six, I absolutely fell in love with the stage and now it’s where I always want to be.
Is music a big part of your family?
Actually, no. They all love the arts but I wouldn’t say any of them are musicians themselves. Huge music fans though.
What artists and songs did you grow up listening to?
2010’s classics. Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Meghan Trainor. I feel like everyone who grew up in the era I did watched these artists and loved their Vevo music videos. But also musical theatre was a huge part of my childhood, so a lot of showtunes!!
Tell us about your first single! How did you come up with it?
Feverdream wasn’t my first single, but was my first ever single with the Singer’s Company! I wrote it during a time when a lot of exciting things were happening back to back and it was like go-go-go (I now feel like my life is constantly like this) and I wanted to put into a song how exciting it all felt! That’s when I came up with the concept of “Feverdream”.
What is the biggest message you want to bring to your audience?
I want to uplift, remind everyone that there are always positives around the corner. And that feeling down or unsure about things is completely normal. Life is bittersweet. But I hope that everyone can have a “feverdream”, whether that is an event, place, time in your life or even a relationship that feels magical and brings out the love and hope in your heart. Feverdreams will always be around the corner when you least expect it.
What has been the most challenging part of your music journey?
The most upsetting challenge I’ve had is getting sick before performances and losing my voice. My voice is, of course, very important to me and it can be really frustrating when I lose it, especially right before big performances. But other than that, I don’t really have any troubles.
Any good vocal health tips you can share?
Always check-in with yourself and your voice. Be aware of how it’s feeling in that moment and act accordingly. If it feels fatigued, take a step back and never push yourself past your limits. If it’s during practice, maybe think of taking a break or just marking the next little bit. If it’s during a performance, you need to think a little more strategically. Maybe soften most of the song so that during the climax points you don’t have to sing so hard. But always prioritize your health first.
Also, drink tea!! I’m a huge fan of tea.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to go on tour! I want to bring my music all around the world. And I absolutely want to write and release my own album. That’s a huge goal of mine.
